Mid-2026 Is Here: A Report from the Quarterdeck

When I opened preorders for Crimson Cross: Azure Waves, I wrote two words on the product page that felt comfortably distant: expected mid-2026. I checked the calendar this morning. It is July. Mid-2026 is no longer a horizon line; it is the water under the keel. So this week I owe you a report from the quarterdeck: where the book stands, what remains between here and your hands, and how you can climb aboard for the last leg of the voyage.

Where Azure Waves Stands Today

The first draft is long finished: forty chapters, three acts, and the whole arc of Samuel Drayton's fall from Charleston drawing rooms into the world he was raised to despise. What occupies me now is the slower, quieter work of making every line earn its place. I read chapters aloud until the false notes surface. I cut words that seemed clever at midnight and merely decorative at dawn. I chase down every rope, sail, and shoreline to be certain the Caribbean of 1698 on the page matches the Caribbean of 1698 in the record.

This pass matters more than any that came before it. A reader forgives a slow chapter sooner than a broken promise, and continuity is a promise. If Samuel takes a wound in one chapter, it had better ache in the next. If a character hums a lullaby early in the story, that melody has to mean something when it returns. Keeping faith with those details is painstaking work, and it is exactly the work a book like this deserves.

Why the Last League Is the Slowest

Any sailor will tell you that open water is the easy part. The careful navigation comes at the harbor mouth, where the channel narrows and the charts must be exact. A novel is no different. Drafting is open water. These final months are the harbor approach: line editing, accuracy checks against period sources, and preparing the manuscript for the first readers who will see it before you do.

I will not rush this landing. I set the expectation of mid-2026 when preorders opened, and we are inside that window now. The moment I can name a day with confidence, you will read it here first, before anywhere else. What I can tell you today is that the book is whole, the story ends the way it always needed to end, and every week brings it measurably closer to your shelf.
